The Astrological August

The major planetary relationship this month occurs on the 21st. It is Saturn in Gemini trining Uranus in Aquarius. The trine aspect (four signs between the planets) is usually considered a positive one. However, Saturn rules restructuring, Uranus rules unexpected changes, the sign of Gemini rules communication and the work force and Aquarius is the humanitarian, friendship and global sign. This is an opportunity for positive change, but change is never easy. Mars (war and aggression) is opposing Uranus at the same time and according to locational Astrology, India and Pakistan could be involved. This aspect repeats in December of 2002 and June of 2003, so between now and next summer there could be more changes in business and opportunities for negotiation. The Sun in Leo until the 23rd supports visibility and ego – entrepreneurs, leaders, politicians, artists, entertainers – all means of self-expression. Leos emphasize their caring for children, loved ones and friends they entertain. The Sun in Virgo after the 23rd supports the practical everyday routine requirements of life at work and at home – schedules, classes, projects, plans and goals.
Mercury (communications, writing, contracts, commerce) in Leo until the 6th supports art, performance and entertaining. Leo is the sign of the entrepreneur so this may be a good time to start new businesses or creative projects or to take a new direction in an existing one. If the ego doesn’t get in the way, Leos are proud of their children, generous with their loved ones, loyal to friends and supportive of their employees. If there is too much ego, they can worry about image more than substance and do what is necessary to save face rather than face reality. Mercury in Virgo from the 6th to the 26th attends to details, analysis and coordination of plans, projects and goals. On the 25th Mercury enters the setup of the next retrograde which will occur from September 14th to October 6th. Between the 25th and September 14th an issue of service and cooperation arises to be worked

on during the retrograde. Mercury in Libra after the 26th supports verbal interaction, arbitration, mediation, cooperative communication and face-to-face contact.

Venus (values, money, social connections) in Virgo until the 7th brings attention to routine functions at work and home. This includes maintenance and beautification of land, gardens and property as well as enhancements inside the home or work place. Venus has a social aspect which supports taking care of and appreciating those with whom you interact on a daily basis. Some people will also be preparing for new jobs and entering school or continuing classes. Venus in Libra after the 7th supports one-to-one as well as social and professional relationships, group activities, public events and entertaining friends and family.

Mars (initiation, energy, aggression) in Leo until the 29th supports the desire to initiate new businesses, participate in or attend art

fairs, engage in or enjoy performances and to entertain or attend parties. As Jupiter enters Leo on the 1st it emphasizes having fun and entertainment activities such as State Fairs, Renaissance Festivals and all of the performing arts. Mars in Virgo after the 29th returns energy to the practical matters of school, schedules, organizations and routine activities.

Jupiter (expansion, opportunity, optimism, travel, foreign trade, education, religion) enters the sign of Leo on the 1st and transits 0

to 6 degrees this month. Jupiter will stay in Leo for one year, until the end of August 2003. Its year-long transit in each sign repeats

once every 12 years, so you can review what was happening in your life from August of 1990 to September of 1991 as well as 1978, 1966, 1954, etc., to see what Jupiter in Leo means to you, how you handled it and what you learned from it. Birthdays most affected are from July 23rd-29th, January 20th-27th, April 20th-27th, and October 23rd-30th as well as any chart with planets or angles from 0 to 6 degrees Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio or Taurus. Jupiter in Leo relates to leadership, entrepreneurs, performing arts, sales, actors, politicians, pride, loyalty, standards of quality and beauty, creative potential, the ego and saving face.

Saturn (structure, foundation, responsibility) transits 24 to 27 degrees Gemini where it repeats retrograde in November/December of 2002 to January of 2003 and repeats direct in April and May 2003. Saturn in Gemini indicates that acceptance of or changes in

responsibility will be experienced by all of this Sun Sign between April 2001 and June of 2003. This month’s transits will most strongly affect those born around June 16th-19th, December 17th-20th, March 15th-18th, and September 18th-21st as well as those with planets or angles around 24 to 27 degrees Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces and Virgo. Saturn’s cycle repeats every 29.6 years, so it is helpful to review what was happening 29 years ago (or the half-cycle of 15 years). Saturn in Gemini suggests restructuring in the transportation, communications, trade and information processing industries as well as commerce and the work force in general.

Uranus (freedom, rebellion, surprise, invention, technology) retrogrades from 27 to 26 degrees Aquarius where it was in March and

April and will repeat direct in January 2003. Those with birthdays around February 15th/16th, August 20th/21st, May 18th/19th and

November 19th/20th will need freedom, will be in chaotic conditions or will make radical changes at these times as well as any chart with planets or angles at 26 or 27 degrees Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio. Uranus in its ruling sign has emphasized the use of computers, electronics and technology, the speed at which life moves and erratic weather patterns as well as rebellious behavior, bizarre happenings and freedom issues. It also suggests that the only way we will survive is by being humanitarian.

Neptune (creativity, sensitivity, inspiration, escapism, dreams, trust) continues retrograde from 9 to 8 degrees Aquarius where it was in February of 2002 and repeats in December. Since Neptune is related to addictions, while it is retrograde, from May 13th to October 20th, is a good time to give up a substance or behavior. Birthdays most affected are around January 29th/30th, August 1st/2nd, November 1st/2nd, and April 29th/30th as well as charts with planets or angles at 8 or 9 degrees Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio. Neptune transits can indicate a lack of direction or focus, a sense of drifting or the inability to see a betrayal, disappointment or error until it’s too late. On the plus side, it can be a time of artistic, musical and creative expression, psychic development, faith and trust or spiritual insights. Under this transit, practice meditation, follow your intuition and dreams, watch your back and try to balance faith with fact to see things clearly, not with wishful thinking.

Pluto (power, control, resources, transformation) retrogrades at 15 degrees Sagittarius where it was in February, April and December of 2001 will be in September 2002. Pluto stations (moves from retrograde to forward motion) on the 26th. Most affected are birthdays around December 7th/8th, June 5th/6th, March 5th/6th and September 7th/8th as well as charts with planets or angles around 14 and 15 degrees Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius. From February 2001 to September 2002,

they will experience changes in life such as marriage, divorce, job changes, financial challenges, relocation or questioning of beliefs.

During these times personal or marriage counseling may be required and transformational or self awareness workshops are enlightening and highly recommended. Since the sign of Sag rules education and religion, when Pluto reaches the middle degrees of the sign we are seeing transformation in methods of education and public awareness of the misuse of sexuality by the religious and the need for accountability.

Featured August Planets in Motion
Sun in Leo
July 22 until August 23

Leo occupies the middle of the summer in the northern hemisphere, the hottest time of the year for half the planet. It's appropriate, then, that the sign Leo is associated with our source of heat, the Sun. This central star of our solar system is the hub around which all of the planets orbit. This position of centrality is basic to the Leo personality.

Leo represents awareness of self and is, arguably, the most self-centered sign of the zodiac. Taken negatively, this means that

Leo can be blinded by the light of its own ego. Like a shining star, its brilliance can make it difficult to recognize the importance of

others. Learning to share the spotlight is a core issue for many Leos.

The Ruler

The Sun in astrology is said to "rule" the sign Leo. That means that there is a natural affinity between this "planet" and sign. Being born with a planet in its "home" sign is considered to be an advantage by astrologers. The energy of the Sun is thought to flow most easily in Leo. However, a planet in its home sign can also be overly simplistic and narrow in its expression. A lack of obstacles in not always a strength.

Leos, then, can benefit from humbling experiences. It's important that they learn how to fail, so that they can reconnect to the sources of their creativity and confidence and begin again.

The Child

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac. It represents that point in the cycle when a child becomes aware of his or her personal power. The discovery of self is a wonderful thing, a fascinating experience in which the rest of the world is seen as a toy with which to play. From a healthy perspective, this offers a sense of confidence that encourages creativity and risk throughout life. However, a potential pitfall is for Leo to operate under the illusion that he or she is creating the world in which all of us live, rather than just being a part of it.

Growing up can be a challenge for everyone, but is particularly true for Leos. Moving from the excitement of possibilities to the real

commitments necessary for accomplishment can be the measure of Leo's potential for success. Learning to listen, too, can be vital for Leo to fulfill its considerable ambitions.

Stars vs. Constellations

It is natural for Leo to see him or herself as a star. Those born under this sign do best when their self-confidence is high. Yet, even

though it is the hub of our solar system, the Sun is but one star among the uncountable billions in the sky. What appears to be the

source of life from one perspective is just another point in a distant constellation from another. Leos who understand that everyone is a star are best able to build the co-operative relationships that can make life so satisfying.

Famous Leos

Leos tend to do well in the spotlight, so show business is full of them. Half the cast of Friends are Leos (Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry). So are Jennifer Lopez, Whitney Houston, Kathie Lee Gifford, Woody Harrelson, Sandra Bullock, Kevin Spacey, Laurence Fishburne, Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, Mick Jagger, Christian Slater, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Billy Bob Thornton, Halle Berry and Steve Martin.

Leo pairs in the world of entertainment include Melanie Griffth and Antonio Banderas, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson and Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman (as reporters Woodward and Bernstein). Other Leo pairs are Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky

and that perfect Leo couple: Jerry Garcia and Martha Stewart.

Sports stars Magic Johnson, Deion Sanders, Barry Bonds, Walter Payton and Patrick Ewing were all born with the Sun in Leo, too. Showmanship and heart helped make these athletes great.

Jupiter in Leo
Thursday August 1, 2002 until August 27, 2003

Jupiter is the largest of all the true planets. Its mass is greater than all the rest of the planets combined. If it was only 20% larger it would develop enough heat at its core to be a star. Astrologically, Jupiter is the planet of expansion, growth and optimism. Known as "The Greater Benefic," it symbolizes good luck and fortune. In the ancient

Indian language Sanskrit Jupiter is called "guru" or teacher. This fits its association with the higher mind, philosophy, truth and

religion. Perhaps Jupiter's good fortune derives from the capacity to give us a larger view in which to see the world. Leo is a sign of individual expression and creativity. Jupiter's presence here can emphasize the power of one person to make a statement that will be heard by the world. The capacity to get the world stand up and take notice is likely to be expanded during this time. Jupiter's pursuit of meaning can be enhanced by personal risk and an opening of the heart, with which Leo is associated.

The negative side, however, can be excessive glorification of the ego.Pride in self is healthy, but boundless pride is a blinding light that darkens, rather than illuminates. This can be a time of "bread and circuses," when meaningful questions are buried in the noise of spectacle. Serious inquiry may not come easily when bombast rules the land.

Appropriately, big-time film-makers George Lucas, Federico Fellini, Dino De Laurentis and Penny Marshall were born with Jupiter in Leo. Stars Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O'Toole, Robert DeNiro, Catherine Deneuve, Willem Dafoe, Bette Davis, Geena Davis, Anne Bancroft and Pamela Anderson are also part of this group. Singers Diana Ross,

Celine Dion, Mick Jagger, Roger Daltry, Johnny Cash and Joe Cocker certainly fit the Jupiter in Leo profile, as do guitarists Jimmy Page and Keith Richards.

Spirituality, sports and politics have their share of grand Jupiter in Leo figures. Pope John Paul II and Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh used considerable media savvy to lead their respective flocks. Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe and Joe Montana were very different, but equally inspiring athletes. The political stage has been occupied by a diverse group of Jupiter in Leo folks, including Angela Davis, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mario Cuomo, Pierre Trudeau, George Wallace, Donald Rumsfeld and Juan and Eva Peron. Big bucks and big ideas include another diverse group of people born with Jupiter in Leo: Bill Gates, Carlo Benetton, Simone de Beauvoir, Ray Bradbury and Rudoph Steiner.

 Mercury in Virgo

Tuesday August 6 2:51 am PDT 5:51 am EDT

Reason and practicality are strengthened as Mercury returns to one of its two home signs (Gemini is the other). Clear

thinking can help us see detailed patterns that have previously escaped detection. Precise thought and speech require kindness to

counter their sharp edges.

Venus in Libra
Wednesday August
7 2:09 am PDT 5:09 am EDT

Fairness, grace and consideration of others are supported when Venus comes home to Libra. Artistic and social sensibilities

enhance beauty and diplomacy. Wounded relationships can be healed with objective understanding and a profound desire for peace.

Palermo Planetary Impact Report

There's big news this month. The full moon cycle around Aug. 21 is a doozie. Experiences are likely to be sudden, extreme, dramatic, ground breaking, illuminating, shocking, wild, crazy or exhilarating - life altering for some. It can be a time of accidents and the unexpected.

Don't take chances with your safety or health. Take special note: a powerful/significant karmic repeat theme comes into play Aug. 15/16. It's a key opportunity to take a giant leap forward, to make radically different choices and to open a whole new pathway. Life in the fast lane. This cycle is meant to accelerate the journey, to bring us all up to speed. You can't hold on to the same old, same old, don't even try. Thankfully, when the writing on the wall suddenly appears, it will be in a language you can read. While the intensity of the moment may be fleeting, the growth opportunities are real and lasting. Turned on and making it happen, Saturn is favorably hooked up with Uranus for the next few months. Try reinventing the wheel. Use your creativity. Stand out from the crowd. Take calculated risks. It could be easier than you anticipate. Jupiter, the big guy, now shines

brightly in happy Leo for a one-year cycle. This planetary energy can be a big boost to the heart, the bank account and/or the ego. Increase is what you get, make sure it's what you want.In the latest round of corporate breakdowns, WorldCom filed the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history last week, and transnational giants AOL Time Warner, J.P. Morgan and Tyco came under scrutiny for a

variety of alleged misdeeds. On Wednesday the CEO of the cable company Adelphia was arrested for corporate fraud, and publicly hauled off in handcuffs.

These dramatic developments all arrived as transiting Jupiter opposed the U.S. Pluto, with the WorldCom bankruptcy occurring on the exact day of this astro-event. In the U.S. Scorpio Rising horoscope, Pluto is the ruler of the chart, ambitiously placed in Capricorn and in the Third House of telecommunications. Pluto here symbolizes the power of the plutocracy in American affairs.

The U.S. Moon in Aquarius is a fair-minded, humanitarian, and progressive force for democracy, and represents a significant push for more egalitarian social relationships. With transiting Uranus near the U.S. Moon, an underlying sentiment for revolution against the plutocracy is taking root. Last week Congress, the President and numerous media stories highlighted the national mood to reign in greedy corporate executives.

Whenever the balance in the U.S. horoscope shifts toward Pluto, America's collective wealth becomes over-concentrated in the hands of a few. In the coming week Jupiter heads into Leo and opposes Neptune in Aquarius. This polarity reflects the growing antagonism between arrogant CEOs (Jupiter in Leo) and those hoping for social equality

(Neptune in Aquarius). As the election season draws near, we can expect more CEOs to be publicly humiliated for their financial

extravagances.

Dick Cheney Off the Ticket

The former CEO of Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney, came under more political pressure last week to explain a $445 million questionable accounting detail, a practice sanctioned by Halliburton's financial auditor Arthur Andersen. The Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating the Vice President's role, and its chairman Harvey Pitt, himself a former lawyer for Arthur Andersen, said no one is above the law.

Cheney was born a team playing Aquarius (January 30, 1941; 7:30 pm; Lincoln, Nebraska) with his Sun right in line with the pending Jupiter-Neptune opposition. Neptune, the natural ruler of scandals, has been hovering around Cheney's Sun for over a year now, and corresponds to the growing list of political intrigues levied against him.

Neptune transits to the Sun often indicate a weakened vitality and can lead to ill health*. When Neptune comes to the Sun the individual feels like escaping or retiring. For the workaholic Cheney, retiring doesn't fit his temperament, so circumstances (scandal) may force the issue. One of the key indicators here is his Juno, located right on his Virgo Ascendant. Juno refers to his partner, which in his professional life is the President.

Using the technique of secondary progressions, Cheney's Juno is squaring his Uranus. This points to a broken partnership. Transiting Uranus is also giving a similar message, underscoring the interpretation. In March 2003 Uranus enters Pisces and continues forward to enter Cheney's Seventh House of partners. Around this time it seems likely to become public knowledge that he won't share the ticket with Bush in the 2004 Presidential election.

Allen Iverson, Troubled SuperstarNBA star Allen Iverson appeared before a judge last week to answer charges that he stormed into his cousin's apartment and threatened two men with a gun while he was looking for his wife. The July 3 incident is only the latest scrape with the law for the mercurial, three time scoring champion, but lawyers familiar with the case say he's not likely to serve any time.

Iverson was born a quick-witted Gemini (June 7, 1975; Hampton, VA; time unknown) with his Moon exalted in Taurus. Ceres, the care-taking asteroid, is also located in Taurus, and the two are enhanced by a sextile to patriarchal Saturn in family-oriented Cancer. The Taurus Moon is a magnet for wealth and a comfortable home, and when linked with these planets explains how he has come to support 33 members of his extended family and friends.

Iverson's bravado and volatile temper can be seen in the network of dynamic aspects to his fiery Mars. Given natural courage and

spontaneous drive by being in impulsive Aries, Mars is further strengthened by a conjunction with Jupiter. However, his Mars is

opposite Pluto and square Saturn, a highly confrontational blend that ensures he will always find difficult challenges.

With his Sun conjunct the partnership asteroid Juno, he praises his wife Tawanna; "She's helped me so much, more than you can imagine, just helping me become the person I am and the player." But with transiting Saturn and Pluto recently aligning with his Sun-Juno, they've become antagonistic. Saturn has moved on, but Pluto remains in a long-term opposition, indicating he must radically reform his act, or lose his wife and basketball career.

The Signs

Aries March 21 to April 19

You are the chosen one. Jupiter's one-year travel through Leo is simply a marvelous blessing. It's your time to shine, to show off, to

bask in the glory. Everyone loves you. Better yet, a special someone loves you. Yep, the heart glows with greater fulfillment. Romantic potentials are on the increase. For some, there's no greater joy than becoming a parent - again or for the first time. Write that book, create that legacy, take your show on the road. Creative, athletic, communication and teaching skills are greatly enhanced. Intuition too. Travel anywhere you like, the welcome sign is flashing for you. The current stellar cycle will teach you a good deal more about yourself and your capacities. As usual, you are an enthusiastic and willing student. No need to ask you twice. Put yourself out there and grab the gold. Aug. 21 to 24 brings the exceptional and/or the extreme.

Taurus April 20 to May 20

Jupiter's one-year tour through Leo is highly significant for your sign. Firstly, it's time to get your home life/private world together.

Are you happy? Comfortable? What could make it better? Now is the time to develop a greater foundation, materially, emotionally and spiritually. Half way measures? No way. Big bang is what you need and want. You want to glow, radiate, shine. Self-satisfaction is the key.

Don't wait for others to supply it for you. Create it yourself. Want more attention? You'll get what you give. Considering a move? The time is ripe for relocation, a new living situation or purchasing a new home. No matter how well you feel, health is another area to

concentrate on. Anticipate sudden change and/or change of heart around the full moon. Aug. 21 to 24 is highly charged and can be highly challenging. A relationship or job may reach a climatic turning point/suddenly end. Positively, a shake up could be just what you need to get yourself moving, although transitions can be initially shocking. Take note, this extreme stellar pattern can bring accidents, violence, breaks and/or breakdowns. You can never be too safe or too careful.

Gemini May 21 to June 21

Growth is finally becoming visible/viable. You deserve all the gifts you can grab, especially after all the hard work and hardships over this past year or so. Jupiter now traveling through Leo opens you to new worlds/gives you a wonderful new game plan to develop. Your social life gets a happy boost. Creativity, passion, inspiration and intuition - feel it, use it. There's so much more to discover. Get on the move, physically and intellectually. Engage the mind, open the heart. Take courses, join clubs or groups. Dots are waiting to be connected. Mid month onward the pace picks up significantly. Do as much as you can to get yourself repositioned. You will have much more to handle as planetary energies move into Virgo late in the month. For now, it's easy child's play. Put fun at the top of the agenda. Fast and furious, anything goes Aug. 21 to 24. Exceptional and unexpected is what you get. There is no choice but to jump in with both feet.

Cancer June 22 to July 22

MORE. Can you handle it? Do you want it? What are you asking for? Jupiter traveling through Leo increases your fortunes (middle of this month onward). For most, it's happy news. In some cases "more" translates to "over the top". One way or another, finances grab the spotlight. Your net worth increases - materially and/or personally.

While better money-making prospects open, you may also be spending (lots) extra. Large purchases such as cars, trips, business

investments, homes and education can eat up the savings/dig you in deeper. Enjoyment. Pleasure. Why not make life a full tilt boogie? If it feels good/feels right, just do it. Creativity and romance are gifted by Jupiter's blessings. The full moon cycle Aug. 21 to 24 will bring a dramatic turning point, especially regarding finances and/or intimacy issues. Face and change whatever isn't making the grade. Aim for a clean and swift break. Keep your eyes open and think safety first Aug. 14 and 15. Avoid drama, volatile people or potentially dangerous situations.

Leo July 23 to August 22

Jupiter in your sign can be a delightful joy ride. The getting is good and the receiving even better. First, you have to clear the path and clean up the leftovers. Get a move on now, before the full moon at the end of the month sweeps you clean, with or without your okay on it.

Aug. 6 to 8 is simply wonderful, especially for play, travel and romance. It's full speed ahead Aug. 11/12. Don't expect to sleep much. While it's great to see the happy lion so lively, there are moments when complaints could find that roar unmistakably loud. Karmic fruition and/or karmic closure play out around Aug. 23. Pay close attention to everything. Children born on this date have a very powerful message to deliver. The dynamic stellar influences of the full moon cycle Aug. 21 to 24 are not to be under-estimated. Your world could look quite different in the blink of an eye.

Virgo August 23 to September 22

Most of the intensity of this month's stars takes place at an undercurrent level. Having said so, they are no less dramatic. There

is much potential developing, with or without your conscious awareness. A sense of anticipation continues throughout the month.

Confidence builds nicely. It's a good time to be vacationing, playing and enjoying time on your own terms. Creativity is unlocked,

especially around Aug. 7 & 8. For some a secret romance may be budding. Think well. Be well. A positive attitude is the key to

conquering health. Alternative treatments and/or a new health practitioner could be the answer. The full moon cycle Aug. 21 to 24

will bring much to the surface. Getting from A to B could be problematic at this time. Accidents, sudden health flair ups, work

stoppages, equipment/vehicle breakdown and the unexpected can throw you for a loop. Lock up, drive carefully, and don't mess around with alcohol, drugs or the law. A sudden change in midstream could set you on a new and improved course. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Libra September 23 to October 23

Good luck continues. As a matter of fact, it increases. Your stars continue in good stead for sometime to come. Jupiter brings freedom to explore and experiment. Your social life continues to expand, especially for those who have recently cut loose from a relationship or become empty nesters. For some, adding the family fold is a dream come true. Opportunities increase for entrepreneurs and those seeking better pay. Try something new, the timing is great. Relocation, travel, more time to play is simply delightful. Creative/artistic pursuits are where you truly shine. The spotlight is aimed your way.

Take a bow. Aug. 7 to 9 are big dates for travel, entertainment, communications and news. The full moon Aug. 21 to 24 brings a "knock your socks off" cycle. Zapped by thunderbolts - no less. Watch for extremes in the stock market. When the urge strikes, try your luck with games of chance. You never know…

Scorpio October 24 to November 22

Undoubtedly, it will turn out to be an especially significant month. Energetically, psychologically and emotionally, build up as best you can now so you'll be pumped and prepared when the full moon cycle at the end of the month flicks the switch. Climatic, dramatic and extreme is what you'll experience. The goods are worth it. All you have to do to get that pot o' gold is to overthrow everything. Jupiter traveling through Leo wants to make loud noises/bang pots and pans. Attention - make sure it's what you want. Reputation is everything. Legendary or notorious - which do you choose? Seek a promotion or new job; expand business activities and/or your sphere of influence. Jupiter's benefic influence is wonderfully encouraging for performers, educators, and entrepreneurs. Parenting duties/expenses increase or see a big release. It's time to give it/life your all. Aim higher, highest.

Sagittarius November 23 to December 21

Saturn may have held you down, but Jupiter in Leo will now lift you up high. You can look forward to a year of enormous growth and greater freedom. Knowledge gained over this upcoming time span takes you far above your current altitude. Consider it a launch toward the next chapter of your life. Message to deliver? Shout it from the mountaintops. Those in creative, athletic or education fields can look forward to greater recognition. Impress us. Claim that spotlight. It's definitely got your name on it. Are you game? You bet. Anything and everything new is a turn on. Mars puts you on a fast track this month.

Love hits the high notes for many of you lucky ones. Spiritual interests become an even more significant part of your life. Aug. 6 to

8, Aug. 20 to 24 can be simply amazing. A karmic journey comes to culmination Aug. 21/22. Mark it on your calendar.

Capricorn December 22 to January 20

It has taken enormous courage for you to make the great overhaul /to arrive at this moment in time. So far so good. Pat yourself on the back. Impatience getting the better of you? The hands on the clock speed up this month. Want it faster? The stars deliver. Instant karma is at play. You won't be waiting long for answers/results. The past and the future are intertwined as a significant karmic threshold is played out Aug. 21/22. There isn't much time to breathe Aug. 21 to 24. One way or another, you are catapult into action. Finances and intimacy issues are where the dramas are played out. Risk taking is the only choice. Trust you'll handle it right when the moment confronts you. Saturn, your ruling planet, is in wonderful position. It may not be what you expect, but it could be just what you need.

Aquarius January 21 to February 18

August finds you on a very fast track. For the most part you love it, even though some of it feels way over the top. Recent changes are now proving to be just what you needed. Expect continual development as the days move forward. Anything new fits like a glove. Saturn advances into favorable position now and will remain hooked up nicely with your ruling planet Uranus for the next several months. This positive influence continues to give you solid opportunity to stand apart from the crowd, to create a unique path, to implement and actualize important personal goals. August Paranormal Report - Bigfoot

Almost every American has heard of the large, hairy "ape man," sometimes called Bigfoot or Sasquatch, who appears mysteriously from time to time; but few realize that sightings of this creature are not limited to the Pacific Northwest

but occur throughout the United States and Canada. To date, the only "hard" evidence we

have of Bigfoot's existence consists of casts of large footprints, some poorly-focused photographs, and
some hair, blood, and feces samples. The bulk of evidence to support belief in Bigfoot's existence comes from personal accounts by people who claim they saw him.

Throughout the world, people for many centuries have believed in the existence of wild, hairy creatures, some of them "mythological" and others "real," some more human and others more ape-like. The "wild human" variety includes Enkidu of

Mesopotamian mythology, a "natural" man with the ability to communicate with animals, and Esau in the Bible, whose body was covered with rough animal hair, and who also had a very strong, offensive odor. In European history, the "noble savage" idea

was prevalent for several centuries, and influenced the creation of characters such as Ben Gunn in Treasure Island, and Friday in Robinson Crusoe, who were wild men, hairy and nearly naked. Also widespread were stories of feral children who were raised by wild animals and popularized in the Tarzan epic.

Hominoids such as Bigfoot, however, are quite different from human beings who either have some animal characteristics or who change themselves temporarily into animals, since beings of the Bigfoot variety are believed to constitute a separate biological
subspecies closely related to humans. Most Bigfoot buffs believe the same subspecies includes "Ye-ti" (the Abominable Showman) of the
Himalayas, who was first reported to the West in 1921 by Howard Bury after he attempted to climb Mount

Everest. (In other reports Yeti is much smaller and has reddish hair. ) (1)

Europeans once believed in the existence of a hairy, large hominoid, as demonstrated not
only by Carl von Linne, the Swedish botanist, who included such a hominoid in his taxonomy, but in other accounts as well. Apparently the European hominoids of earlier times were very similar to Bigfoot, in that they were very large, hairy creatures who
emitted high-pitched screams or whistles, possessed a strong body odor, and sometimes appeared with females who had long, pendulous breasts. (2)

In North America, early trappers and settlers in the Pacific Northwest began to hear stories told by Indians of a large, hairy, man-like creature called Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, and soon newspapers carried accounts of sightings of such a creature by both Indians and whites. The Victoria Colonist (British Columbia), July 3, 1884, reported the capture of a "gorilla type" creature, four feet seven inches tall, weighing 127 pounds and covered with glossy hair an inch long. The creature "possessed extraordinary strength." Its keeper planned to take it to England to exhibit it, but there is no record of its subsequent fate. (3)
The Butte Record (California), November 5, 1870, has an account of the sighting of a male "gorilla or wildman," (sometimes accompanied by a female), who stood about five feet high and was disproportionately broad, covered with dark cinnamon-colored hair, and who whistled and played with burning sticks from a hunter's fire.

Other 19th century
newspaper accounts tell of sightings of creatures who were seven feet tall. (4)  After the publication of stories of the Himalayan Yeti in the 1920s, reports of sightings of Bigfoot in
North America began to increase, but some believers explain that before that
time Americans were isolated and had nobody with whom to share their experiences. In the past few years, television programs featuring "unsolved mysteries" have once more publicized Bigfoot, but to my knowledge nobody has studied the relationship between the appearance of these programs and reports of sightings.

Compared to the varied descriptions in newspaper accounts of the 19th century, viewers in the 20th century have gradually come to agree on Bigfoot's basic traits: he is seven or eight feet tall, has a bad odor and a high-pitched scream, and frequently performs some act that takes a great deal of strength. Some details, especially the shape of his face or the color of his hair, may vary considerably. Curiously, he usually, but not always, comes at night or at twilight, and often has the ability to move extremely

rapidly, quicker than a man or a horse. And he always comes quite unexpectedly, surprising the witness. In fact,
those who have intentionally gone to find and photograph Bigfoot have not succeeded in finding him, though some have discovered footprints and hair samples.

In the late 1960s and early 70s, there was great national interest in the search for Bigfoot, as evidenced by the production in 1967 of Doug Wendt's film, Sasquatch Among Us, by newsletters devoted exclusively to Bigfoot research, and by many newspaper accounts on the subject. One of the most famous researchers was Peter Byrne, a big game hunter from Ireland, at one time the director of the International Wildlife Conservation Society of Washington, D.C. Mr. Byrne searched for both Yeti and Bigfoot over

many years beginning in 1948, and during one newspaper interview, said that although he doubted that Yeti was real, he gave Bigfoot a "95% chance of existing." However, even after months of waiting in the area of The Dalles, Oregon, he never managed

to get a glimpse of Bigfoot. (5)

Recently, experts investigated claims that an Indian on the Fort Bidwell Paiute Reservation in Modoc County, California, had spotted a hairy 8-foot tall man with silver eyes who could run very fast. Erik Beckjord, director of the Crypto Zoology Museum in
Malibu, California, who visited the site with cameras and plaster, was not surprised that Bigfoot appeared on an Indian reservation: "For some reason Bigfoot seems to be more comfortable around Indians," Beckjord commented. After the investigation, Beckjord left with plaster casts of footprints, but nothing more. (6)

Searches in Asia for a man-animal like Yeti have also proven fruitless; a team of 100 Chinese researchers from the China Wildman Research Center, set up in 1960, went to the mountainous forests of Hubei province in 1988 in an attempt to uncover the mystery
of a man-ape who has lived in the area for 3,000 years, and who has been seen by many peasants in recent years. The researchers returned with hair samples, which they analyzed, and reported that these hairs could not belong to any one of

the nine other animals in the area, since the levels of calcium, iron, and copper were higher in the "wildman." The Chinese team thus believed that their study proved objectively the existence of the wildman, "a rare and advanced primate that is similar

to man." (7)

A few recent accounts in Ohio and Pennsylvania link Big-foot with UFOs, but Linda  Milligan believes the accounts have been influenced by the printed publications of this  link. She further notes that Bigfoot the animal has not yet changed into Bigfoot the Alien,at least not in Ohio. (8)

There is always the nagging question, "Does Bigfoot REALLY exist?" It is puzzling that so many people have seen Big-foot or Sasquatch, and yet nobody has ever shot one and brought the body into the authorities. (Certainly human beings don't

seem to refrain from shooting animals, or even other people.) It is also strange that many researchers have gone looking for the animal and not found one, not even a carcass. Some of the arguments against the existence of Big-foot include the following: the

footprints were made by hoaxers, or by animals or human beings whose tracks were widened by rain or melting snow; the photographs were either deliberate hoaxes or optical illusions; the sightings were nothing more than hallucinations or projections of

ancient "archetypes" within the human psyche.

On the other hand, perhaps there really exists a separate sub-species  of hairy beings in North America and elsewhere who have eluded scientists. Or, perhaps Bigfoot is an actual human being afflicted by a genetic condition called "hypertrichosis," in which long hair grows all over the body, including the entire face. There is the famous case of Peter Gonzales, born in the 16th century in the Canary Islands, who apparently came from a family, all of whom had the condition. He was presented as a gift to King Henry II of France and became a part of the king' s entourage of dwarfs, giants, and other anomalous beings. (9) Or perhaps Bigfoot is a remnant of an earlier being, the last survivor of a former hominoid who was displaced by homo sapiens.

Attempts to "prove" the existence or non-existence of Big-foot are, however, fruitless; we can find many people and books that take either side. In fact, no authentic belief legend can be proven by anyone to be either true or false; if it were already a scientific, accepted reality, there would be no legend surrounding it. From a folkloristic point of view, belief legends are always in dispute: "'Real' folk legend must produce a reason and feasibility to profess faith, to take a stand for or against belief." (10)

I have always contended that folklorists must refrain from attempts to prove or disprove a legend or any other form of folklore, leaving that effort to other disciplines. They should instead concentrate on gathering and analyzing texts, making comparative studies, and looking for the meaning of the item for the group. (11) Studying folklore, and for that matter any other subject, always proves much more exciting if we approach it without preconceived notions about truth.

For over 150 years, American and Canadian citizens have reported seeing a large, hairy,man-like  creature, usually in the woods or mountains. While these  sightings are concentrated in the North-West [Washington, Oregon, British Columbia  area], they have
been sighted across North America, with one of the largest amount of sightings being in far-away Florida.

The general Bigfoot description is of an upright ape-like creature, with no neck, and long brown hair or fur. Its generally around 7 feet tall, seems unconcerned or curious with the presence of humans, and often described as having a rather pungent odor. This
last trait gives rise to another of its names, Skunk Ape. The written history of Bigfoot dates back to 1780. Numerous reports

have been published in newspapers, journals and letters of the early American settlers.Such reports are particularly abundant in the historical documents of the Northwest Fur and Trading Company. Native Americans have passed down the legend of Sasquatch in their oral tradition for unknown generations. In 1967, the only believable photographic image was captured by Roger Patterson in his film of Bigfoot walking through Northern California forest.(several independent tests have verified the film's authenticity). More frequent evidence is found in the footprints, sightings, and other finds occurring several times a year in the Pacific Northwest. (The specific derreal patterns, bone structure, and heel to toe placement generally believed to be known are extremely difficult to fake.)

Gathering, analyzing, and researching much of this evidence is the Bigfoot Research Project (BRP) in The Dalles, Oregon. BRP is associated with and partially funded by the Academy of Applied Science in Boston. The project's goal is to prove the existence of Bigfoot, generally believed to be a omnivorous, nonaggressive, bipedal hominid life form. BRP is trying to find, communicate with
and responsibly learn about Bigfoot and its history. The project is not out just to "bag one" and dissect its body just for the anthropological record.

BRP believes this additional information to be true: Bigfoot is over six feet tall and weighs a hefty 500 pounds; Bigfoot is nocturnal; and, finally, Bigfoot is good at many things, including living in harsh conditions, controlling its population, and treading softly on its environment.

Why is there no evidence of Bigfoot in the archaeological record? And just how do BigFoots control their population? One Native American presents the interesting theory of cannibalism (but he also says he knows where a lair of them live). Being so large, BigFoots have large caloric needs and eat whatever they can, and perhaps even each other. In the broader scope, however, there

may just never have been large numbers of BigFoots in the first place.

Some people say they felt awe and respect upon sighting a Bigfoot, while others have made claims of children being torn limb from limb and eaten alive by the Bigfoot's. Most believable accounts, however, report a shy being.

I'm sure I would be shy too .....If I was a member of a limited species <G>

Dear Alex,
Over the past 10 years I have frequently had readings from professionals. Quite often during my readings I will be asked about my own abilities concerning witchcraft and or paranormal talents. This has always baffled me, as I have never studied nor pursued any such teachings.
However, recently I have been experiencing what can only be described as precognition. It has been happening at least once a week, but not on any large scale regarding the topic of the precognition.. Quite insignificant people or matters or scenes will appear to me, and approximately 2-24 hours later the same scene or person will actually be before me. Because these precognitions are happening more and more I am trying to be open to them. But for someone that has never experienced anything quite this strong before, I must say I'm a tiny bit freaked out.....
I have also been having, during this time....incredibly vivid images of possible past life experiences? I'm wondering if this could be related?
I have started reading many books about precognition and past life work but wondered if you had any advice for someone that may be experiencing somewhat psychic incidents for the first time..
If this is a gift that I'm being shown by the universe then I definitely don't want to be closed to it...but how can I calmly go into this new stage of my life without freaking out just a little? And, is it common for someone to develop and or become aware of these abilities at 28 years old, or does this normally happen at a younger age?
Any help or suggestions you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
I am a big admirer of your work and the tearooms...
regards
Heidi-Louise

Alex - Wow, talk about coming out of the broom closet hehe. At 28 you are now transiting through a very powerful astrological aspect called a Saturn Return,a three year period which occurs every 28 years when Saturn returns to it’s original position in the natal chart. Sounds complicated? It’s not.

Saturn is our stern taskmaster who requires us to learn our lessons well and apply them to personal life issues and dealings with others. Where does Saturn (and Capricorn) sit in your natal chart? That’s where Saturn will strike. I am guessing its in one of the psychic houses of your chart or at least aspected as much .

Important things to remember during your Saturn Return are:
1. The Return lasts three years or so from age 28-30.
2. Expect changes, changes, changes.
3. Listen to what Saturn is trying to teach you and apply that knowledge to difficult areas in your life.
4. If you don’t listen to Saturn now, the planet will kick you in the patoot during the next Saturn Return (age 56 or so). How would you like another go-around? I certainly wouldn’t!

Just think by the time you hit menopause in another 30 years or so ..... you may find yourself a High Priestess or even a professional psychic. Keep reading  and keep learning ...and watch for my upcoming class this fall on psychic Development if you are in the Boston area its one you wont want to miss !

Next letter from Lisa11171@aol.com

Hi Alex,
I have constant nightmares, many of which I am being left alone, or hurt in some emotional way. Do you believe this could come from a past life experience? I have always wanted to try past life regression therapy, but don't know how to find a reputable source.
Lately I feel like there is so much more I should be doing with my life. I feel pulled to natural health therapies, and try to gain as much knowledge about my spiritual side as possible. How can I find out how to make use of what I have learned for the good of all people (especially myself!)?
Thanks,
Lisa
DOB: 01/11/1971

Alex- I sense it comes from a deeper subconscious insecurity,in this life rather than from a past one. The best way to utilize what you learn is to recognize it and never take it for granted. Many say in this world giving is receiving, if so, then you must first give to yourself so others can receive what you learn . :)

Next letter from lmcantbewrong@netscape.net-

does anyone at the tearoom do jewelry readings?

Alex- Why yes in fact we have a reading just for that purpose, called psychometry here's a blurb from our menu on it -Psychometry. Jewelry, photographs and other personal objects contain the vibrations with which they have had a very special connection. 30 minutes @ $50

Next Question from Murphtones@aol.com

Hey Alex, great monthly column. My question is how do you answer a request for the results of a gambling situation? (ie. the Lewis/Tyson boxing match)  I'm sure plenty of gamblers have tried to hedge their bets with psychic help. Thanks-Murph

Alex- Unless asked as part of a radio or television interview, I usually do not. If and when I do I would most likely use astrology for the majority of the determination .

Next question from susie.max@verizon.net

Hi Alex,

I have been teaching myself Tarot card reading for the last few years.
I am interested in finding out if there are any good Tarot books out
there that you recommend.  I am also interested in trying to get a
better understanding of how to interpret reversed cards and wonder what
how you work with them.

Thanks very much,

Susie Goldman

Alex- I strongly suggest any book by Mary K. Greer or Robin Wood . Like many readers I don't use reversed meanings, largely because it is a rather clumsy and inelegant mechanism, and there are better ways to refine the interpretation of a card.

And lastly a comment from Morrison616@cs.com
